Covenant Christian School is a ministry of the Covenant Evangelical Methodist Church located in Morgantown, WV.

Covenant Christian School and Day School began in 1990. We offer classes for three-year-olds through eighth grade. We use the A Beka curriculum, a curriculum that stresses phonics as a method of reading. In an age where the emphasis is on bigger schools and larger classes, we believe that the best learning takes place in a smaller classroom. The number of students in one classroom will never exceed twenty and in the earlier years, a teacher's aide is used for classes over fifteen students.

Covenant's colors are purple and gold. Our mascot is the cougar and we are the Covenant Cougars. We participate in the Brookhaven Basketball League and have five teams for kindergarten through sixth grade. We also have cheerleaders.

Covenant has a uniform policy for student's in grades 1 through 8, however the second Friday of every month is dress-down day and the fourth Friday of every month is dress-up day, which is a lot of fun.

We offer daily electives to our students in grades 1 through 8. They have art, music, library, and computer lab once a week. Our computer lab consists of 16 computers, allowing each student access to the computer for the entire time. Students have physical education twice a week.

Although academics are an important part of our school, we believe that each child needs personal love and attention. Our teachers and staff are concerned about the whole child, not just his or her academic abilities.

We hope that you will pray about where you should send your child to school. Covenant is not the only school and perhaps is not the best school for your child and your circumstances. We want God's best for your family and if we can help in any way, we'd love to!

History:
Rev. Dr. Edward W. Williamson and his wife, Loretta Williamson, started Covenant Day School in the fall of 1990. Rev. Williamson was the founding pastor of Covenant, which houses the school. Loretta realized with both parents in most homes working, there was a great demand for childcare. With most of the area's childcare providers offering nothing more than babysitting, she had a desire to offer a place where children could learn how to read, write, and count as well as learn about God. And so Covenant Day School came into existence. In the fall of 1991 additional grades were added and Covenant Christian School was established. Covenant has continued to flourish, although it has gone through several changes. We are commited to working with other Christian Schools in the area to insure that every child comes to know Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord and receives the quality education he/she deserves.

Mission Statement:
Covenant Christian School and Covenant Day School has as its mission the following: "To Equip Today's Children for Life in the 21st Century and for Eternity". If you feed a child today, the child will still need food tomorrow. If you clothe a child today, the child will need more clothes tomorrow. If you educate a child today, you educate for life and if that education is Christian, you educate for eternity.

Statement of Philosophy:
The philosophy of Covenant Christian School is that God is the source of all truth and as such all subjects must be studied in light of His Word (John 17:17). Furthermore, we believe that the Christian school is one of the three major institutions (Family, Church, and School), which must work together in order to accomplish God's plan for training children.

Statement of Purpose:
The major purpose of Covenant Christian School is to provide a Christian learning atmosphere for each student. This includes the following list of specifics:
1. We Purpose to bring students into a proper relationship with God. This involves, first of all, the offer of the gospel message. Next we seek to present God's truth about life and living, our world and the nature of man, and to present the Word of God as the authoritative source upon which to build a life that has purpose and meaning. To accomplish this purpose, Christian education must put the Bible at the center and require the student and the teacher to evaluate all they see in the world through the eyes of God.
2. We Purpose to prepare students with the basic tools of learning. The ability to read, the mastery of math, and the ability to express thoughts orally and in writing make up the disciplines of learning and give the student the tools he/she needs to become a productive Christ-honoring citizen.
3. We Purpose to build students with a system of values consistent with the Word of God. This will result in a generation of students whose ethics and sense of moral right and wrong are grounded in God's absolutes not humanistic relativism.
4. We Purpose to develop in students an appreciation for our country and our Christian heritage.
5. We Purpose to uphold the sanctity of our homes and our churches. It is the duty of Christian educators to work on behalf of and in cooperation with parents in the academic training of their children. Deuteronomy 6 is not intended to take place just in the home. It is to go on at all times. A child's education in school should harmonize with his/her education at home and at church.

Statement of Beliefs:
The Word of God - We accept and believe the doctrines of historic, Bible-believing Christianity. We receive these not as dead articles of religion which have little meaning or relevance for our time, but as vital truths based upon the Word of God.
The Trinity - We believe in the Godhead, the Holy Trinity, in which there are three Persons of one substance, power, and eternity - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The Father - We believe in God the Father Almighty, revealed to mankind as an awesome God of Grace, love, might, mercy, justice and holiness.
Jesus Christ - We believe in Jesus Christ, who is both God and man; His virgin birth, His sinless life, His substitutionary and redeeming death, and His physical resurrection.
The Holy Spirit - We believe in the Holy Spirit who ministers the Word of God, reveals Jesus to Christians and empowers them to serve God.
The New Birth - We believe each person must surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and be born again before he/she is a true Christian.
Sanctification - We believe in entire sanctification, subsequent to regeneration, whereby the believer is cleansed from the pollution of sin, saved from its power, and enabled through grace to love God with all his/her heart.
A Holy Life - We believe that every Christian is expected to live a holy life, one that is truly Christian.
Sacraments - We believe in two sacraments, Baptism and Holy Communion. The mode of baptism is left to the conscience of the individual.
Resurrection - We believe in the resurrection of all bodies to be judged and receive their due rewards.
Eternal Life - We believe in eternal life for the redeemed and eternal punishment for the unbelieving and lost.
The Church - We believe in the local and universal church, which is the body of Christ on earth.
The Lord's Return - We Believe in the blessed hope, the impending, literal return of Jesus Christ to receive His church unto Himself.
